तृशूर् पूरम्

Thrissur Pooram is Kerala’s most spectacular temple festival, celebrated annually at the Vadakkunnathan Temple in Thrissur during the Malayalam month of Medam (April-May). Introduced in 1796 by Shakthan Thampuran, the Maharaja of Cochin, it features grand processions of caparisoned elephants (each carrying an idol of a deity from participating temples), the vibrant Kudamattom ceremony (exchange of colorful umbrellas), electrifying percussion ensembles like Panchavadyam and Ilanjithara Melam, and dazzling fireworks displays. Ten temples participate in this 36-hour celebration, showcasing Kerala’s rich cultural heritage.
