Pauṣa (पौष) māsa, Śukla Pakṣa Pratipat
पौषकृत्यं महाभारते---
पौषमासं तु कौन्तेय एकभक्तेन यः क्षिपेत्।
सुभगो दर्शनीयश्च यशोभागी च जायते॥
वामनपुराणे---
प्रासादनगरादीनि गृहप्रावरणानि च।
नारायणस्य तुष्ट्यर्थं पौषे देयानि यत्नतः॥ इति।
pauSa-mAsaH begins today — In the Mahābhārata, it is said that one who observes the month of Pauṣa with the discipline of ekabhakta (eating only once a day) becomes charming, pleasing to behold, and attains lasting fame. In the Vāmana Purāṇa, it is stated that during Pauṣa, one should diligently donate buildings, towns, and household furnishings (gṛha-prāvaraṇāni) to please Nārāyaṇa.Names
