मार्गशीर्षकृत्यं भारते---
मार्गशीर्षं तु यो मासमेकभक्तेन सङ्क्षिपेत्।
भोजयेत्तु द्विजान्भक्त्या सर्वपापैः प्रमुच्यते॥
कृषिभागी (कृषी भोगी) बहुधनो बहुधान्यश्च जायते॥
वामनपुराणे---
खरोष्ट्राश्वगजा गावः शकटादि अजाविकम्।
दातव्यं केशवप्रीत्यै मासि मार्गशिरे नरैः॥ इति।
mArgazIrSa-mAsaH begins today — इn the Mahābhārata, it is said that one who observes the month of Mārgaśīrṣa with ekabhakta discipline (eating only once a day), and offers food to brāhmaṇas with devotion, is freed from all sins. Such a person becomes wealthy, prosperous in agriculture, and blessed with abundant grains. In the Vāmana Purāṇa, it is stated that to please Keśava (Viṣṇu) during the month of Mārgaśīrṣa, one should make offerings such as donkeys, camels, horses, elephants, cows, carts, and goats/sheep.Names
